The Nanotechnology Laboratory at Chalmers University of Technology<\/a>uses a Pellvac cyclone separator to separate blasting sand. They have installed it as a pre-separator on a blasting cabinet to extend the replacement intervals of the original bag and fine filter. <\/p>\n

The existing hose from the blasting cabinet was 5mm larger than the sockets on the cyclone top, so they needed to weld on an adapter. Since the cyclone top is made of ordinary steel, it can be easily modified to fit the blasting cabinet connections. <\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

After about 3-4 weeks, we contacted the customer Viktor Svedholm at Chalmers and asked if the installation was satisfactory and if we could get an evaluation of how

\n\t\t\t\t\"We bought this separator about a month ago and haven't emptied it yet. We don't have a log of how long we blast, but it's about an hour a week on average. Most of the time, it's just a few small parts, and then it only takes a couple of minutes, but sometimes it's all the wall plates from a process chamber that needs to be cleaned, and then it takes hours. I would guess that there is dust from maybe 3 hours in the bucket.\"\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Separating blasting sand with Whirlwind<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Whirlwind is primarily designed to separate ash, but it can also be used to blast sand. It’s essential to understand that blasting sand is an abrasive material that can wear out the plate. The lifespan of Whirlwind will depend on the amount of blasting sand it has to handle. Although we at Pellvac haven’t tested Whirlwind with blasting sand, we anticipate that Chalmers will be able to use it for at least 3-5 years, if not more, before the cyclone needs replacement. <\/p>\n
